Mythbusters: Confirm or Bust! Science Fair Book #2
written by Samantha Margles
Illustrated by: Michael Massen

Fun experiments for kids from the experts in mythbusting!

Kid-friendly and age appropriate, this book is packed with fun experiments to do for school and at home based on the popular Mythbusters TV show from the Discovery Channel.

Samantha Margles teaches life science at an independent school in Manhattan. She has also written numerous books for children including the MythBusters Science Fair Book.

What We Thought:

Perhaps Giana is just not as interested in science as I am. We attempted to flip/read through this together, but it ended up being just me. I found it very interesting, as I do the show.

In case you live under a rock, (kidding!)  or do not have a man in the house that watches TV, This is a popular Discovery Channel Show that has been around for seems like almost a decade called MYTHBUSTERS. They like to go around de-bunking things that are commonly believed to be true, that aren't!
Like what? you ask...
... such as "do Mento's really explode when put into a bottle of soda? Haven't you always wondered?
That and more is featured in this book!

Myths to bust...in the safety of your own home!

Do you have what it takes to be a MythBuster? Confirmed!  This book is based on a weekly documentary in which two Hollywood special effects experts attempt to debunk urban legends by directly testing them.

Kid-friendly and age appropriate, this fun follow-up book to the successful MYTHBUSTERS SCIENCE FAIR BOOK is packed with more than 30 brand-new experiments for school and at home. Follow the book's step-by-step simple instrcutions, and you'll be able to bust or confirm myths just like Adam and Jamie on the popular MythBusters TV show from the Discovery Channel.

Here's a snippet of an interview I found on Cnet:

" Q: Welcome to 45 minutes on IM. Let's start from the top. Tell me about your favorite "MythBusters" moments.
Adam Savage: My first favorite moment was during the filming of "Penny Drop  (featured in this book! Very good read" CC L of E!~) ." (See video below.) Will a penny dropped from the Empire State Building kill you when it hits the ground? We had figured out the terminal velocity of a penny with math, but I built a wind tunnel to demonstrate it physically, because I wanted to see it happen. I was so pleased with the successful wind tunnel, specifically because it physicalized the experience rather than represent it with dry numbers. "

This segment (below) from Youtube shows another article featured in the book reviewed called "Needle In A Haystack. Click play and watch it!

Can a penny dropped from a building kill a pedestrian below? The MythBusters have the answer.

As you can see, it's all very grown up and scientific, so be sure this book is right for your reader. I have decided to pass this book onto my nephew, who is 15 as I'm sure it's right up his alley! He's going to be so excited to get it!
